Net Safety Score

We’ve introduced a metric indicating how safe travellers feel when using our services during the COVID-19 pandemic. After every ride, we ask each traveller to leave a review.

  • 20 minute gap between transfers

Following each ride, our drivers have at least 20 minutes to thoroughly clean the surfaces of the car and ventilate the cabin.

  • Regular Car Sanitisation

Our drivers thoroughly sanitise and disinfect cars according to Welcome Safety Protocol

  • Contactless ride

When you book, you can request to have zero contact with the driver during the transfer with just one click. In this case, the driver won’t help you with your luggage or shake hands.

  • Sanitiser in every car

We provide hand sanitisers and hand wipes for all our travellers. Our drivers have their own sanitiser, which they use before and after every ride

Taxis in Barcelona

There are over 10,000 black and yellow taxis serving the city of Barcelona, so you shouldn’t have any problem getting around. Although taking a taxi in Barcelona isn’t the most budget-friendly option, it’s definitely the quickest and most convenient one. No need to wait in the heat or try to navigate the complicated public transport system, you can simply hop in an air-conditioned car and enjoy your ride. You can find taxis waiting at ranks around the railway station, the bus station, in main squares and at set points throughout the city. However, you can also easily hail a Barcelona taxi from the street if it has a green light on the roof and a sign saying ‘Libre’, meaning ‘Free’, in the window.

Barcelona Taxi Prices

Taxis in Barcelona have a standardized charging system based on a taximeter. There aren’t any set rate fee journeys within the city of Barcelona, they are charged based on distance traveled or time taken. You can find the current fares and surcharges displayed on a yellow sticker in the rear passenger window of all the official taxis in Barcelona.

Base Fare – €2.15

Minimum Rate /km – €1.13

Average journey price in the city – €7

Please be aware that if you choose to take a taxi from your hotel, prices may vary from those listed in the official list. Many hotels in Barcelona have special deals with the local taxis and take commissions or they also work with private taxi companies, so if you book through your accommodation, your journey might be a little more convenient, but the prices could be higher than hailing a taxi from the street.

Monday to Friday 08:00 to 20:00 – The base fare is €2.15 and the minimum rate per km is €1.13

Monday to Friday 20:00 to 08:00 – The base fare is €2.15 but the minimum rate per km increases to €1.30.

Saturday, Sunday and holidays – The base fare is €2.15 and the minimum rate per km is €1.30.

There are also extra charges for luggage (€1), traveling on New Years or Christmas (surcharge of €3.10) and keeping your taxi waiting for an hour (€22.10).

How to get a Taxi in Barcelona

Taking a taxi in Barcelona is extremely easy. Whether you prefer to walk to a rank or simply hail one from the street, you won’t have to wait long until you’re on your way. You can find standardized taxi ranks outside all of the major hubs such as hotels, bus stations, train stations, and even some tourist sites. Some of the major Barcelona taxi ranks can be found at Sants Station, Barcelona Nord, França railway station and the Exhibition Centre. Please note that taking a taxi from one of the main ranks can cost an extra €2.10 as a convenience supplement charge.

If you prefer to hail a taxi from the street, simply look for a taxi that has a green light in the window or to the side of the ‘TAXI’ sign on the roof, these cars are free. Once you spot one, simply hold out your hand and the driver will pull over to the side of the road to let you in.

Once you’re sitting comfortably in your Barcelona taxi, be sure to have the address of your destination to hand and cash in bills no bigger than €20, as taxi drivers aren’t expected to carry more than that in change.

Book your Barcelona Taxi Transfer in Advance

If you prefer to pay a set rate fee agreed in advance, or if you are planning a longer Barcelona transfer to the surrounding areas, you may want to book a taxi in advance. There are countless taxi and tour companies operating out of Barcelona, but you can find some of the best rates quality with Welcome. There’s no need to worry about hidden fees, language barriers or extra surcharges when you book a Barcelona taxi in advance.

Barcelona Taxi Tips

  1. Taxi drivers in Barcelona aren’t obligated to carry more than €20 in change, so be sure to bring small notes.
  2. Be aware that most taxi drivers in Barcelona don’t speak English, so you may want to write down your destination or have it ready on Google Maps to show them.
  3. Taxis in Barcelona don’t offer baby-seats, but they don’t charge anything extra if you wish to bring your own and fit it for your ride.
  4. Most taxis in Barcelona accept credit cards, but to be sure, simply look for the Mastercard/Visa logo in the passenger window.
  5. Guide-dogs are able to travel for free in all official Barcelona taxis.
  6. If you’re worried your driver is taking the long way to increase your fare, turn on Google Maps and track your journey.
  7. Tips are always welcomed, but doing so isn’t common in Barcelona.
  8. Be sure to always ask for your receipt in case you leave anything behind in the taxi. The phrase in Spanish is “Quiero mi recibo por favor”.
  9. Make sure your taxi driver resets the taximeter before your journey to the correct base fare.
