Mykonos Taxis
Although it may not be the cheapest option, taking a taxi to get around the island is the easiest and fastest way. There are around 34 taxis on Mykonos that can be found at all the main tourist spots, taxi ranks or simply driving around the streets for you to flag down. Taxis in Mykonos use a taximeter to calculate most journeys around the city unless you’re coming from a port or the airport, then you may be able to snag a set-rate fee.

Cost of a Mykonos taxi
As Mykonos is a fairly small island, the rates of their taxis are heavily monitored and regulated. Taxis in Mykonos use a taximeter to calculate your fee based on the distance travelled. There are two different rates, Tariff 1, which is from 05:00 to 24:00 and Tariff 2, which is from 24:00 to 05:00.

It’s worth keeping in mind that there can be extra charges for each piece of luggage heavier than 10kg (€0.38), an hour of waiting (€10.46), airport pick-up (€2.51) and port pick-up (€1.04).

How to get a Mykonos taxi
There are 34 taxis in Mykonos, so waiting times during peak seasons or time of day can be quite long. However, there are three different ways to get a taxi in Mykonos, by walking to a taxi rank, calling the taxi centre or hailing one down on the street.
One of the quickest ways to get a taxi is stopping an empty one on the street. All you need to do is stop and reach out your arm at the driver. Once inside the taxi, make sure the taximeter is reset and the correct tariff is showing.
If you’d prefer to walk to a taxi rank for your Mykonos taxi, you can find them at the central point of each village, at the Port, in the central square of Mykonos town next to the statue of Manto Mavrogenous or outside Fabrica bus station.
Finally, if you’d prefer to wait indoors for your taxi, you can call the Taxi Centre on +30 22890 23700 or +30 22890 22400 and a representative will send out your cab. Bear in mind that this service will have an extra charge.

- Most drivers in Mykonos don’t speak English, so make sure you write down your hotel’s address to avoid any confusion.
- Taxis in Mykonos don’t offer baby seats as standard, but you can bring and fit your own free of charge.
- As Mykonos is a small island, taxis don’t offer payments by credit or debit card, you will need to carry cash with you at all times.
- Taxi drivers in Mykonos rarely have change for large notes, so be sure to carry change smaller than €20.
- If your journey seems to be taking longer than expected, you can track your driver’s route using Google Maps.
- You don’t have to tip your Mykonos taxi driver, but if your journey was great and your driver was friendly, you can round up to the nearest Euro.
- Make sure your Mykonos taxi driver resets the taximeter before your journey to the correct base fare of €1.14.
- Be sure to always ask for your receipt, this is the only way to track down and forgotten belongings or make a complaint against your driver.
- There is a surcharge of €2.51 when taking a taxi at the airport, keep this in mind.
Wheelchair Accessible Taxis in Mykonos
Unfortunately, standard taxis in Mykonos don’t offer full wheelchair accessibility. However, you can fold and store your wheelchair for free if you are comfortable sitting in the taxi. If you need an access ramp or to stay in your chair at all times, there are some tour companies that offer minivans that have this service.
Mykonos Taxi complaints and safety
As there is such a low number of taxis in Mykonos, safety levels are extremely high. Each driver is monitored and standards are highly regulated. Having said that, if you do experience any problems during your taxi ride, such as rude behaviour or overcharging, be sure to ask for your receipt, take down the driver’s ID number and the taxi number. You can then call the Taxi Centre to make a complaint on +30 22890 23700 or go to the local transport police.
