Travel safely with Welcome Pickups
Net Safety Score
We’ve introduced a metric indicating how safe travellers feel when using our services during the COVID-19 pandemic. After every ride, we ask each traveller to leave a review.
20 minute gap between transfers
Following each ride, our drivers have at least 20 minutes to thoroughly clean the surfaces of the car and ventilate the cabin.
Regular Car Sanitisation
Our drivers thoroughly sanitise and disinfect cars according to Welcome Safety Protocol
Contactless ride
When you book, you can request to have zero contact with the driver during the transfer with just one click. In this case, the driver won’t help you with your luggage or shake hands.
Sanitiser in every car
We provide hand sanitisers and hand wipes for all our travellers. Our drivers have their own sanitiser, which they use before and after every ride

Although Porto has a fairly extensive metro system, there’s nothing better than hopping in an air-conditioned taxi and whizzing off to your destination. If you want to fit in as much as you can during your time in the city, or if you simply want to travel in comfort, taking a Porto taxi is your best option. Taxis can be easily spotted all around the city and charge you using a taximeter based on distance, not a set-price.

During the nighttime hours of 21:00 and 06:00, on the weekends and during major holidays, there is a price increase of 20%.
Base fare day – €2.50

Base fare night – €3
Price per km night – €0.60
It’s important to note that there may also be extra charges for things such as large luggage (€1.60), keeping your driver waiting for an hour (€14.80) and booking over the phone (€0.80).

How to get a Taxi in Porto
As Porto is a major city in Portugal, there are taxis everywhere. You can easily spot them as they are either a light beige or black with a green roof. All taxis in Porto have a ‘TAXI’ sign on top. You can tell if a taxi is free and ready to accept a customer if the sign on top is lit up green. You can easily take a Porto taxi by raising your arm and hailing one from the street, walking to a taxi stand or calling a radio taxi company.
If you prefer to take your taxi from a taxi stand, known as “praça de táxis” in Portuguese, you can find them outside the major hotels, the airport, train stations, popular tourist attractions and along Aliados Avenue.
If the weather is bad or you’re travelling late at night and want to get back to your hotel safely, you can also call a radio taxi company. They will pick you up at the exact location you specify, so you can wait for your Porto taxi inside. One of the top taxi companies in Porto is Raditaxis: +351 225 073 900.

Wheelchair Accessible Taxis in Porto
Although you can bring and store your wheelchair free of charge, standard Porto taxis aren’t wheelchair accessible. If you need to stay in your chair throughout your journey, you can contact one of the local taxi companies and request an “adapted vehicle”. There are also some tour companies in Porto that may offer this service upon request.
Porto Taxi Complaints and Safety
Although Portuguese taxis are monitored and have to show their taxi photo ID in the cab at all times, you may run into some problems during your journey. Whether your driver is rude, you feel you have been scammed or you believe you’re being overcharged, be sure to ask for your receipt and note down the driver’s name, taxi number and ID number. You can then report serious problems to the Porto Tourist Police by calling +351 22 209 2006 or visiting the station at R. Clube dos Fenianos 19.
